There are many interesting fact about ferrets.  A family of four ferrets can eat up to 763 prairie dogs a year.  In fact, prairie dogs make up 90% of the black footed ferrets diet.  Black footed ferrets spend 99% of their time underground.  Black footed ferrets are the only native ferret species to North America.  A family of ferrets is called a business.  In 1972, black footed ferrets were believed to be extinct.  Kits are born and helpless and stay underground until they are about two months old.  Ferrets sleep 18-20 hours a day and the name for ferret come from the latin “furonem”, which means thief.  A female ferret is called a jill and male ferrets are called hobs.  A newborn ferret is so small it can fit into a teaspoon.

Also, there is a sport called ferret legging.  Ferret is an endurance event, where two participants tie off their pants at the ankles and waist and drop two ferrets into their pants.  The ferrets then claw and bite as they try to escape.  The winner is the man who can withstand the torture the longest.  Contestants wear white pants so you can see the blood.  Also, players do not wear underwear.  The longest time a ferret has been kept is 5 and a half hours.
